According to the National Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery, eight percent of all soft tissue injuries on the face are the result of participation in a sport. A large number of sports-related injuries involve the face. During a game, it’s common to take a player’s elbow, stick/bat, or ball to the face and suffer broken bones or cuts that leave scars. Fortunately, there are ways to lessen the aftereffects of these injuries.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive technique that reduces the appearance of scars and blemishes. During the therapy, microscopic particles of crystal buff away the damaged layers of the skin. This reveals the lower layers of healthy skin. As the layers of skin peel away, the raised scars are smoothed out.
Prior to microdermabrasion, clients who undergo the procedure have their skin cleaned thoroughly to remove all makeup, dirt, and oil. Dr. Kabaker’s office uses the Ultrapeel Crystal system that is completely painless and does not require anesthesia
At the end of the hour-long session, a therapeutic lotion is spread over the skin. You will experience improvements in your skin after one treatment. Depending on the severity of the scarring, you may need up to six treatments.
Broken noses occur regularly in sports. Some broken noses heal so that there is no lasting evidence. Other breaks lead to a crooked nose or the area where the break occurred develops a ridge or bump. Rhinoplasty is useful in fixing these issues.
There are two forms of rhinoplasty – closed or open. With the closed technique, the doctor makes the incisions inside of the nostrils. With the open technique, a small incision is made on the skin between the nostrils.
