If you are searching for a gentle, non-invasive way of improving the appearance of your skin that also involves no recovery period or “down-time”, then our system of microdermabrasion therapy may be your solution.
Microdermabrasion, also known as the “power peel” or the “crystal ultra-peel”, is a gentle and effective way of improving the appearance and feel of skin. It can be used to maintain that healthy glow of those with youthful skin, or can be used for people with skin problems-sun damage, acne, blackheads, age spots, pigmented areas or small scars. We perform microdermabrasion on almost any place of the body and find the most popular treatment areas to include the face and neck, forearms and hands. It is best performed in a qualified medical facility by an aesthetic nurse specialist under the supervision of a physician. Almost everyone who undergoes a series of treatments experiences an improvement-their skin feels fresher, smoother, and softer.
Our system of microdermabrasion was designed in Italy by Mattioli Engineering of Florence. It works by propelling fine, medical-grade crystals across the surface of the skin. The superficial, dead-cell layers of the skin are removed, leaving behind a healthier, refined layer. The effect is similar to a light chemical peel or exfoliation, resulting in an immediate improvement in the skin’s smoothness, texture, and appearance.
Roseanne Gallagher, RN, our skin care specialist, has performed microdermabrasion since it’s introduction to this country. After years of experience with many types of skin problems, Roseanne has found that preparing the skin properly before treatment, and protecting it after, are as important as the microdermabrasion session itself. Roseanne typically devotes an entire hour for each patient.
She says,
“I make sure to clean the skin of makeup and oils to prepare it for the microdermabrasion therapy. I then employ a gentle yet thorough microdermabrasion treatment, highlighting the problem areas. I finish by applying protective lotion and therapeutic skin care products after the treatment to achieve the best results.”
The vast majority of our clients who undergo microdermabrasion are treated for uneven skin tones, minor blemishes as a result of sun exposure, and acne. Often, Roseanne will consult with Dr. Kabaker and suggest a combination therapy of microdermabrasion, de-pigmenting cream, and glycolic acid peels for such patients. By using microdermabrasion for acne, the patient can avoid taking antibiotics that typically take months to work. In addition, the vacuum effect of the microdermabrasion machine not only removes dead skin but also opens and cleans skin pores of acne-causing debris and bacteria.
The number of treatments that each patient undergoes varies with the severity of the problem. Often people see significant improvement after 4-6 treatments. Most people actually feel an improvement in the quality of their skin after just the first treatment.
There is no recovery period for microdermabrasion therapy. In fact, most patients return to their normal, everyday activities immediately after leaving the office. A healthy glow of the skin is often the only telltale sign.
Microdermabrasion is an exciting, effective, and gentle method for improving the quality of your skin. Dr. Kabaker and Roseanne Gallagher, RN, feel strongly that years of refinements in technique at our institute have culminated in a highly effective system of microdermabrasion therapy that will produce immediate and lasting results for our patients.
