Question:
There’s so much talk in hair restoration about ensuring a natural-looking hairline but what exactly should the characteristics of a natural-looking hairline be and how are they achieved?
Answer:
In general, a hairline should be placed at a level on the forehead that is congruent with the rest of the face. The current favorable grafting technique utilizes placement of individual follicular units which are naturally made up of 1to 4 hair shafts. Creating a natural-looking hairline involves designing an undulating line around which a transition zone is created. The first centimeter of the transition zone is best made up of single hair follicles randomly dispersed in an irregular pattern at various densities. Behind this transition zone, follicular units of two or more hair shafts are placed to provide more dense coverage.
