Question: Is there any way to reduce post op swelling after facelift?
Answer: There are many strategies to reduce swelling following a facelift, although there will always be some degree of swelling post-operatively. The surgeon will usually place a head wrap dressing that will help reduce swelling. He/she may also place drains to remove excess fluid from the surgical area that can contribute to swelling. Some surgeons administer steroids or other medications that reduce swelling at the time of the surgery. The most effective strategy that the patient can do is to keep his/her head elevated as much as possible for several days after a facelift. This promotes return of edema (swelling fluid) to the body, rather than remaining in the face.
