Question: I’ve been getting fillers for some time. How do I know when I’m ready for a facelift instead?
Answer: Facial rejuvenation is a spectrum, ranging from non-surgical treatment like neuromodulators (e.g. Botox) and injectable fillers to various types of facelifts. The point at which to transition from non-surgical to surgical rejuvenation is when the desired effects are no longer obtained with non-surgical techniques. Facial aging is a combination of loss of volume and sagging of the tissues. Injectable fillers correct volume loss, which gives the appearance of lifting of the tissues. At a certain point, the tissues will need to be lifted more than what an injectable filler can provide. It would be useful to consult with an experienced plastic surgeon to determine whether that point has been reached and whether a facelift is the right treatment.
