Question:
When the hair is removed from the donor area, does it grow back? If not, does it then leave a big bald patch?
Answer:
The donor site incision, usually planned in the back of the head just below the palpable bony prominence, runs horizontally towards the ears and sometimes up over the ears depending on how many grafts are needed. The scalp at this site is removed at a height of approximately 1 to 1.5 cm and a depth of several millimeters. The incision, once closed, brings the hair above and below the donor site together and is usually hidden within the surrounding hair unless your hair is very short. There are no bald areas left behind.
