Question: I recently heard rumor that Angelina Jolie had a facelift. I think she’s just in her 30s. Do people ever have facelifts at this early of an age?
Answer: A facelift during the 30s would be very uncommon. The aging process depends on multiple factors, including the patient’s genetics and environmental exposures, such as sun and cigarette smoking. It is possible that an individual with a strong family history of advanced aging, significant cumulative sun exposure, and heavy smoking could have an aged appearance in his or her late 30s, but patients typically are candidates for facelift much later in life. A patient seeking facial rejuvenation at an earlier time point may be a good candidate for non-surgical techniques, such as neurotoxins (i.e. Botox) and injectable fillers (i.e. Restylane and Juvederm).
