Question: Do all cases of rhinoplasty in African Americans generally involve some change to the nostrils?
Answer: All cases of rhinoplasty in African American do NOT involve changes to the nostrils, although many do. A widened nasal dorsum and widened alar base (nostrils) are features that patients often seek to change with rhinoplasty. Some plastic surgeons sub-specialize in rhinoplasty for African American patients. It should also be noted that changing one part of the nose can result in changes to the nostrils, even though they are not specifically operated on. For example, raising and narrowing the nasal dorsum can make the nostrils also appear narrower.
