Question:
I know swelling is normal after rhinoplasty. I’m a little over a month from mine and the swelling seems extreme in the morning, and then clears up by night. Is this normal? I’ve heard morning swelling can be permanent, is that really possible?
Answer:
At one month after a rhinoplasty this is a common phenomenon. Swelling can be present for up to a full year aftery surgery, and morning edema occurs due to decreased fluid mobilization at night. During the day, when you are more active, fluid is able to exit from the tissues of the nose more easily and allows for less swelling by the end of the day. Typically, swelling will completely resolve over time.
