Question: Does the facelift help to prevent future signs of aging?
Answer: A facelift can typically reduce one’s aged appearance by about 10 years, although the aging process will continue throughout life. The patient will continue to look approximately 10 years younger than his/her actual age. A facelift doesn’t “prevent” aging per se, but instead restores youthfulness. The best way to prevent future aging is to avoid excessive sun exposure and tobacco smoke, and to adopt a skin care regimen under the guidance of a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Neuromuscular blockers, such as Botox, can also help prevent future aging by reducing the development of permanent wrinkles.
