Question: I have large nostrils that I would like to have reduced. I feel like my nostrils themselves are very soft. Will this pose a problem for my surgery?
Answer: Reduction of the nostrils usually involves re-shaping the cartilage tissue in this area of the nose. This can be done through several techniques. If the cartilage is very weak and/or soft, it may need to be reinforced so that it does not collapse when the patient breathes in deeply. This is not necessarily a problem and an experienced plastic surgeon would be familiar with the techniques required to avoid this, as well as techniques to reduce the nostril size depending on the severity and patient’s goals.
